Diana Ah Naid

About Diana Ah Naid

Diana Ah Naid spent much of her life on the road in Australia, traveling with her father and her two brothers after the death of her mother when she was eleven months old. The family earned money for food and shelter by performing in bars and on street corners, giving Ah Naid her basic training in performing from the age of seven onwards. When she was 13, she and her brothers decided to stay in Lismore, Australia, though her father moved on once again. She dropped out of the music business for a time, becoming a mother when she was 16, then returned to performance at 19, armed with new songs and an acoustic guitar. Fortune came her way in the form of a Dutch Greenpeace member who provided the money to finance her self-produced debut CD, Going Off, which has since been picked up by Origin Records in Australia. The debut single, "I Go Off" (written in response to a friend who complained that her performances were too controlled), struck a nerve in Australia, and became an immediate hit, propelling Ah Naid into the limelight. ~ Steven McDonald
