Raleigh, North Carolina’s the Rosebuds play economical garage-pop dunked in a vat of atmospheric reverb, a miniaturist's revisioning of Jesus & Mary Chain centered around Ivan Howard‘s hooky songwriting and earnest wail, and partner Kelly Crisp’s potent and cavernous keyboard parts. The duo (joined for live shows by a rhythm section) create a dirty/sweet sound that hearkens equally to pop-punk and ‘90s shoegazer bands, and since ’03 have released increasingly more ambitious albums on the respected Merge label.
