Description

Can you resist the depths of the human heart?

It is 1958 and seventeen-year-old Landon is revelling in his youth: dating girls and even claiming to have been in love. He is a world apart from shy, reclusive Jamie Sullivan, a Baptist's daughter who carries a bible with her school books, cares for her widowed father and volunteers at the orphanage. But fate will intervene.

Forced to partner up at the school dance, Landon and Jamie embark on a journey of earth-shattering love and agonising loss far beyond their years. In the months that follow, Landon discovers the true depths of the human heart, and takes a decision that is so stunning it will lead him irrevocably down the road to manhood . . .

From Publishers Weekly

04 October 1999 – Sure to wring yet more tears from willing readers' eyes, the latest novel by the bestselling Sparks is a forced coming-of-age story concerning a pair of unlikely young lovers. In a corny flashback device that mimics The Notebook, 57-year-old Landon Carter spirits himself back to his fateful senior year in high school in Beaufort, N.C., when he was an archetypal troublemaking teenager of the 1950s, changed forever by an unexpected first love. Jamie Sullivan, the Bible-toting minister's daughter, with her drab brown sweaters, spinster hairstyle and sincere, beatific advice, is the obvious target of high school ridicule. Despite conspiring in Jamie's derision, class president Landon, desperate for a date for the homecoming dance, finds himself asking Jamie. Afterwards, Jamie asks him to participate with her in the metaphor-laden school Christmas play (Jamie plays the angel). Landon endures the taunting of his friends and forms an uneasy friendship with Jamie, which is carefully supervised by her father. The teens visit needy orphans, give Oscar-worthy performances in the school play and share dreams watching the sunset. Landon realizes he's in love with Jamie, but, of course, she is hiding a devastating secret that could wring her from Landon's arms forever. Now tortured by his knowledge of what will be her terrible fate, he must make the ultimate decision that catapults him into adulthood. Readers may be frustrated with the invariable formula that Sparks seems to regurgitate with regularity. Although the narrator declares, "My story can't be summed up in two or three sentences; it can't be packaged into something neat and simple that people would immediately understand," this is the author's most simple, formulaic, and blatantly melodramatic package to date.

Great Book!

This book has touched my heart and im sure millions more. Nicholas Spark has touched the human life and turned it into a enchanting tale of Love, Tradegy and Heartache. To have it on my Ibook app is great and easily able to read where ever and when ever. All i can say if you havent read this book you should its amazing.

A Walk to Remember

I have found this book to be an exception. Because it makes you feel with emotion and think at the same time. It makes you think about the same questions in your life, as if presented with the same scenario. Even if you are not religious, you can't help but have faith or believe that maybe miracles can happen.

Another thing is, its a short but straight to the point read. Keeping you engaged and hooked through it all. Not many writers have this gift. Most make you feel as though you are still reading a book. But I was really connected, and felt as though I was there with the characters, feeling the loss all the same.

If you want to know what I'm talking about, then this book is a must read. I'm sure that I will continue to enjoy the rest of the books as I read on. I also know that books can be made popular by movies, which inspired me to read this one.

I know that for anyone, who hasn't yet read this book. I can promise, that you will be as drawn in as I was. Don't be fooled by the amount of pages it holds, because it makes the story even more real. Giving you the ability to see the story though your own eyes.

It is compelling, sad and even funny. If you have a good sense of humour, you will see why. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Fantastic. Keep them coming.

Engaging

This is definitely a story to read. If you have to read a love story this is one you should read. Sparks does the best.
