Angel of Storms

Book 2, Millennium's Rule - The gripping fantasy adventure of danger and forbidden magic (Book 2 of Millennium's Rule)

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Following Thief's Magic, international No. 1 bestselling author Trudi Canavan returns with the second novel in the Millennium's Rule series - her most powerful and thrilling adventure yet.

Tyen trains students in the ways of magic, but his teaching may soon be outlawed. Rumour has it that the formidable ruler of all worlds, long believed to be dead, is back and is harshly enforcing his old laws - including the one forbidding schools of magic. As teachers and pupils flee, Tyen is left with no home and no purpose . . . except to fulfil the promise he made to Vella, the sorcerer imprisoned in a book. Tyen must decide what he is willing to do to free her.

Elsewhere, Rielle's peaceful new life as a tapestry weaver has been shattered by a local war. As defeat looms, the powerful Angel of Storms appears and invites Rielle to join the artists of his heavenly realm. But what will he require in return for this extraordinary offer?

A gripping fantasy adventure filled with danger, intrigue and forbidden magic. Perfect for fans of Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss and Peter V. Brett.

From Publishers Weekly

28 September 2015 – Canavan's disappointing second worlds-spanning Millennium's Rule novel (after Thief's Magic) introduces two characters living small existences in the worlds of their birth and then draws each of them into the grand setting of many worlds connected by magic and the sorcerers who are powerful enough to journey between them. Rielle Lazuli is an artist who is invited to leave her isolated and magic-poor world by a powerful sorcerer; Tyen Ironsmelter is an inventor and a teacher at a magic school. When the Raen, the ruler of all the worlds, returns after a long absence, Rielle and Tyen are drawn into the struggles of the powerful: one trained by the Raen's most trusted leader, the other at the head of a gathering rebellion. This secondary-world epic develops slowly. Tyen has an interesting personal goal and pursues it avidly, but Rielle is mostly passive, her characterization limited to her instant attraction to any powerful man in her vicinity. It's a shame to see such an interesting setting dragged down by weak characterization and a tepid plot.
