In Blue Love book one of a four part series, we meet seventeen year old Tessa Ross as her family is falling apart. Tessa's life has always been centered around her large family, faith, and the farm. Tessa begins questioning her families beliefs and values.
Due to state and federal educational budget cuts Tessa's senior is further disrupted by a transfer student, Lucas Links a player in all areas.
Luke sees Tessa for the first time after football practice and immediately realizes she is not like the many others who he has been with. Tessa is annoyed by his attempts to get to know her. But quickly falls hard and fast for him, partially motivated by his ex girlfriend's actions.
Lucas quickly falls in love with her. Life has never easy for him and we watch as he wants to change for her. He finds himself in many horrible situations and sometimes falls back into his old habits. Each stressful situation tends to be dealt with by drinking or smoking pot, a trick he learned from his mother.
Lucas’s mother relapses, and after checking her in with borrowed money from his wealthy father Landon. He sparks one up and passes out he wakes to Tessa walking in on him and his ex.
Tessa walks away and through her hurt she finds herself face to face Toby. Toby worked on the family’s farm and is now in the Naval academy and let’s her know that even though this date is for show he would someday like more.
Lucas decides he will win her back by doing what he knew she would want him to, make things right with all those girls he has treated so badly. With his mother in rehab he is left alone, once again to fend for himself, he gets high and hits a tree. He is released to the Ross family with the condition he stay with them until his mother is out of rehab. A condition he must accept in order to be able to play in the state championship. A condition that Tessa is very angered by but quickly learns the reasons he is how he is, Tessa comes face to face with many of his past sexual partners, or as she calls them “The Dirty Dozen” and falls more in love with him “anyways”.
Tessa and Lucas try hard to fight their love for one another. Lucas continues working towards being the man he wants to be, the one only she believed he could be.
This story of a first love is unlike those we have seen before. You will find yourself loving the bad boy and wondering what happened to the good girl. Truth be told I am sure many of us ask ourselves everyday what happened to us back then.
