Mary Kubica bestselling author of The Good Girl delivers a stunning new psychological thriller about a chance encounter that sparks an unrelenting web of lies...
Heidi Wood has always been a charitable woman: she works for a non-profit, takes in stray cats. Still, her husband and daughter are horrified when Heidi comes home one day with a teenage girl named Willow and her four-month-old baby in tow. Dishevelled and apparently homeless, this girl could be a criminal or worse. But despite her family's objections, Heidi invites Willow and the baby to take refuge in their home.
Heidi spends the next few days helping Willow get back on her feet, but as clues into Willow's past begin to surface, Heidi is forced to decide how far she's willing to go to help a stranger. What starts as an act of kindness quickly spirals into a story far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated.

Not So Pretty
I'm sorry to say but I found little to like...certainly not the characters. The story line begins with an intriguing and compelling premise then the characters flounder and flail through some pretty heavy going, multiple clichés...the narrative switches leaving us with less to like in each chapter. I skipped over sections and found the end feeling that this novel was written quickly and the final chapters thrown desperately into a blender. The author has talent and there's just enough to keep you hooked beyond the sample but throughout the characters cry out to be realised and I tired of them as they had tired of themselves.
Well written, I didn't get bored once & enjoyed getting to know the characters even if they all had issues! I did however find the daughters characters story wasn't fulfilled!
