Description

The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare's newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.
It's been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.
Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn't lead her in treacherous directions…
Making things even more complicated, Julian's brother Mark-who was captured by the faeries five years ago-has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind-and they need the Shadowhunters' help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn't recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?
Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare's Dark Artifices series.

From Publishers Weekly

15 February 2016 – Clare returns to her Shadowhunters world with this enjoyable if drawn-out tale. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, it centers on Emma Carstairs, a Shadowhunter adopted by members of the Blackthorn family who, like her, were orphaned in the Dark War five years earlier. Emma has become parabatai or sworn companion to Julian, the oldest Blackthorn boy living at the local Institute, where Shadowhunters live and train. When humans and faeries start turning up dead, covered in mysterious runes like those found on the bodies of Emma's parents, she and Julian investigate, accompanied by Julian's disoriented older brother Mark, recently returned after having been stolen by the faeries years before. Having been gradually revealed in nine previous novels, the Shadowhunter universe is complex, jargon-rich, and a bit unwieldy, but Clare's well-developed protagonists (each a fragile combination of heroic warrior and teenage neurotic), pell-mell action sequences, complicated family dynamics, and fascinating magic system continue to engage. This first volume in the Dark Artifices trilogy should easily please Clare's existing fans, but newcomers will want to begin with the Mortal Instruments. Ages 14 up.

Customer Reviews

BEAUTIFUL. FREAKING AMAZING.

The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices were both beautiful series and I can happily say that The Dark Artifices can also be added to that list. Lady Midnight was an emotional, action-packed, beautiful read and I've found myself not being able to get it out of my mind several days after finishing it. It's that good. It's good the perfect mix of secrets, mystery, action, drama and romance (YASS) to suit anyone.

I really don't want to give anything away...but Julian and Emma were AMAZING. Every moment between them was so intense and the last few pages of the book honestly broke my heart and I know the first chapters of the next book will be painful to read. There has to be some sort of loophole with the whole parabatai thing...THERE JUST HAS TO. Those two are perfect.

So what are you waiting for? But this book and read it right now because you won't be left disappointed. It's amazing.

Perfect!

Lady Midnight was an incredible story, I cannot wait for the next instalment in the Dark Artifice series.

Amazing/ thrilling

This series, much like Cassandra Clare's other book series is amazing, and I can't wait for 'Lord Of Shadows'
