Book 1, The Curse of the Bond Riders
Dr. Karen Brooks
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
In a world of darkness, there is one who will bring light . . .
On the edge of a mystical border called the Limen, close to a beautiful canal-laced city, a humble candlemaker rescues a child, whom he raises as his apprentice.
Years pass and the child's unusual talents are revealed, the gentle art of candlemaking slowly transforming into something far more sinister. Lingering in the shadows, enemies watch and wait - a vengeful aristocrat, an exotic queen and the lethal creatures known only as the Morte Whisperers.
They hunger after the child's ancient magic and will do anything to control it - betray, lie, manipulate. Even murder.
A story of intrigue, deadly magic and a love so deep it transcends life itself.
Couldn't wait to read the 2nd book
Great suspense, a touch of mystery and all set in a mystical, Venice-inspired land. Well-written characters that I couldn't wait to read more about.
A wonderful first book in a great series
Don't be fooled, this is not only a book for teenagers. This first book in The Curse of the Bond Riders series is wonderfully entertaining for teenagers and adults alike. Karen Brooks presents a superbly rich and textured fantasy tableau based on a Venice not quite our own, in a century not quite the present. Meet Tallow, a young candelmaker's apprentice, who is what he seems. A wonderfully woven tale of love, loss, ancient prophecies, good and evil, that had me both laughing and crying in turn.
Make sure you read Votive, book two of the series and keep an eye out for Illumination, the third book. I can't wait for it to be released!
Are you sick to death of vampires? Do you enjoy science fantasy that could almost be reality? Take a journey to Tallow's world and immerse yourself in the lives and emotions of the people who would help ... and harm this child. Learn Tallow's secrets and share in the suspense as the story unfolds.
Karen Brooks has written a masterful tale that stirs the senses and evokes the faded glory of a place reminiscent of Venice in a time not long past. The characters will fast become old friends ... and enemies.
Beware, this book will leave you wanting more, but happily the sequel is already published and is a brilliant continuation of Tallow's intriguing story.
