The Beethoven Obsession

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

With over 90 minutes of audio and video material and a rich array of photographs of the main players, the enhanced eBook of Brendan Ward’s The Beethoven Obsession tells the story of how the greatest piano music ever written acquired a unique Australian voice, played on a revolutionary grand piano that shook up the conservative music establishment. Listen to the maestro’s music as you read this fast-paced drama of frustration, envy, rivalry, struggle and success, starring a self-taught child prodigy who sold condoms and contraband to advance his studies; a fanatical inventor who took apart pianos as a child to examine their ‘gizzards’; and a TV cameraman who became a music entrepreneur to translate the music he loved into an Australian first.
Their unorthodox, historic odyssey created multi-award-winning, best-selling albums and changed their lives forever.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant!

An absolute must for every classical music lover. Particularly in combination with the Gerard Willems recordings on the Australian Stuart & Sons piano, this book gives you the insight to this outstanding and utterly unique undertaking that Willems and producer and author Brendan Ward have achieved.

A truly wonderful project!

The Beethoven Obsession

An unpretentious, easy to read book about Beethoven! Great not to have to scramble to find CDs to understand the points being made by the author. Links to the music and videos throughout the book make this a very enjoyable experience.

A must read

An Aussie flavoured, behind the scenes look at how a music obsession came together. Easy reading, great interactive content and a perfect compliment to the cd recordings. If you love music, this is a must. 5 stars.
