The Fat Paddler

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

The Fat Paddler is an extraordinary tale of an ordinary man's recovery from physical and mental trauma through taking on the challenge of competitive kayaking. Over an eight-year period, Sean Smith survived two major accidents including the Bali Bombing in 2002, leaving him with significant physical and mental injuries and setting him on a path to an early death. At a low point in his life, he accepted the challenge by friends to compete in a kayak ultra-marathon with only seven months' preparation. Despite early failures, Sean persevered. This is an uplifting story of how a severely damaged man courageously struggled to regain his health ... and discovered a new joy for living.

An awesome read

What an inspirational story. I literally read the book from start to finish without a break.

To come back from such adversity and complete a challenge like the Hawkesbury Classic, an iconic Australian paddling ultra-marathon, is an amazing feat.

If you need a book to help you re-assess your own goals in life, and be inspired to achieve me, you;d be hard pressed to go past this book.

Inspirational reading.

Inspiring and captivating story

I read The Fat Paddler cover to cover, barely putting the book down. It is a heartfelt and inspirational, real life read about an ordinary bloke overcoming some pretty tough challenges by tackling them head on with a paddle.

You will laugh at The Fat Paddler's self deprecating humour and cheer on his crazy challenges and sheer determination. Whether or not you are into paddling, this book will leave you feeling inspired to tackle life's challenges head on.
