The People Smuggler: The True Story of Ali Al Jenabi

The True Story of Ali Al Jenabi

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

At once a non-fiction thriller and a moral maze, this is one man's epic story of trying to find a safe place in the world.
When Ali Al Jenabi flees Saddam Hussein's torture chambers, he is forced to leave his family behind in Iraq. What follows is an incredible international odyssey through the shadow world of fake passports, crowded camps and illegal border crossings, living every day with excruciating uncertainty about what the next will bring.
Through betrayal, triumph, misfortune - even romance and heartbreak - Ali is sustained by his fierce love of freedom and family. Continually pushed to the limits of his endurance, eventually he must confront what he has been forced to become.
With enormous power and insight, The People Smuggler tells a story of daily heroism, bringing to life the forces that drive so many people to put their lives in unscrupulous hands. It is an utterly gripping portrait of a man cut loose from the protections of civilisation, attempting to retain his dignity and humanity while taking whatever path he can out of an impossible position.

The people smuggler

This is a great read, kept me captivated through out the book. If what Ali says is true our real problem with smuggling is the Malaysian government. They are so full of corruption we have no hope of stopping this problem....this opened my eyes to a global problem....I thoughly enjoyed this book with its fun and sadness and it's incite into the story of Iraq and irans people to survive in their own country....very sad....enjoy.....glad saddam is I have finished reading it I would recommend it to any body as a must read.

An eye Opener

Unable to put this story out of my mind. Bringing me to tears on many occasions. Rereading sections as its just so hard to understand what this heroic man and his incredibly brave family went through. Opening my eyes to what it really means stare hardship, oppression, unimaginable violence and torture and not to mention loss in the face and still manage to survive intact wanting to help your family and others. An inspiring must read for all.

Sometimes ashamed to be Australian

I wish all our politicians, could read this story. To have no country to go home to and no future in the new, is totally upsetting.
Ali I am sorry from all who let you down and hope things will change. Compelling to read, and very sad
