Lucy’s life was supposed to be idyllic once she and her family moved to sun-soaked Oz – but it couldn’t be more of a mess.
No sooner have they unpacked their Marmite, than Lucy catches her darling husband Jasper inflagrante. With her best friend Renee. In one double blow, she loses the two people she trusted most – and now has to fend for herself.
While Lucy battles her daughter (low self esteem is hereditary – you get it from your teenagers) and desperately tries to turn herself into an Aussie love goddess to win Jasper back, she meets Jack “Lockie” McLachlan. He’s a rugged lifeguard with plenty of experience in rescuing damsels in distress. But Lucy can do without any further complications in her life right now. The only question is, without Lockie’s kiss of life, will she sink or swim?
To love, honor and betray
Kathy Lette's novels have always been enjoyable reading for summer holidays and this one is no exception. Though the plot line is familiar and the theme of scorned wife who finds herself and gets better man in the end is becoming somewhat worn, the characters are likable. Moreover, the humour is still there. Not as well written as ' How to kill your husband in twenty ways' it is none the less hard to put down as English ex-pat Lucy finds herself abandoned in Sydney, Australia by her husband for someone Lucy least expects. Along her journey she battles to gain her bronze medallion in surf lifesaving, proving that a good mother will do anything to make her children happy. Characteristically, Lette sends her heroines to rock bottom, before they climb their way out of their domestic misery, and in 'To love, honour and betray', Lucy does so with the help of a new friend. While her books have mildly feminist attitudes Lette is careful not to tar all men with the same brush and those who enjoy a bit of spice in their romantic/humor will appreciate the sparks that fly between the main characters Lucy and Jack.
This would have to be the funniest book I have EVER read. The reason why I got back into reading ️xx
