Tribes

We need you to lead us

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

In this fascinating book, Seth Godin argues that now, for the first time, everyone has an opportunity to start a movement - to bring together a tribe of like-minded people and do amazing things. There are tribes everywhere, all of them hungry for connection, meaning and change. And yet, too many people ignore the opportunity to lead, because they are "sheepwalking" their way through their lives and work, too afraid to question whether their compliance is doing them (or their company) any good. This book is for those who don't want to be sheep and instead have a desire to do fresh and exciting work. If you have a passion for what you want to do and the drive to make it happen, there is a tribe of fellow employees, or customers, or investors, or readers, just waiting for you to connect them with each other and lead them where they want to go.

From Publishers Weekly

18 August 2008 – Short on pages but long on repetition, this newest book by Godin (Purple Cow) argues that lasting and substantive change can be best effected by a tribe: a group of people connected to each other, to a leader and to an idea. Smart innovators find or assemble a movement of similarly minded individuals and get the tribe excited by a new product, service or message, often via the Internet (consider, for example, the popularity of the Obama campaign, Facebook or Twitter). Tribes, Godin says, can be within or outside a corporation, and almost everyone can be a leader; most are kept from realizing their potential by fear of criticism and fear of being wrong. The book's helpful nuggets are buried beneath esoteric case studies and multiple reiterations: we can be leaders if we want, “tribes” are the way of the future and change is good. On that last note, the advice found in this book should be used with caution. “Change isn't made by asking permission,” Godin says. “Change is made by asking forgiveness, later.” That may be true, but in this economy and in certain corporations, it may also be a good way to lose a job.

Customer Reviews

Best leadership book I've read in ages

Wow... Lots of notes and highlights made. Inspiring, encouraging and challenging.

An awakening read

Originally I googled "best books on leadership" and found tribes. I started reading and found it unorganised and a little washy at areas. I wondered why so many people had given such positive reviews.

As I read on I realised I was looking for leadership rather then trying to interpret the message of leadership. I wanted clear, organised and concise instructions on "how to" lead.

This book is not that, it's far far more. It's a journey of self discovery, it's an opportunity to review your perspective on life and the world you live in. It's thought provoking, honest and inspiring.

It's a small book packed with a BIG message!!
