Warriors and Maidens

This is one of a series of books about Western Crete.

In 1967-1968 Barrie Machin and his family went to the village of Pallikari in Western Crete to carry out a social anthropological study of child rearing. Over the years he returned there many times. He has already published Passing Shadows a movie, death in Crete, songs of fate and other essays, and Stelios Bervanakis: a war story.

This book is a record of the village before globalization and the explosion of mass tourism. It celebrates a unique way of life and contains many video and sound recordings as well some magnificent photographs. This eBook is meant for students of anthropology but it is easy to read and accessible to anyone who loves Crete.
