Conceived as an alter-ego/side project by Jebediah's Kevin Mitchell, Bob Evans has really sprouted wings since 2003 debut album Suburban Kid, which signalled his move towards (what became) a signature acoustic rootsiness. With second album Suburban Songbook — a superb collection of spruced-up demos — Mitchell/Evans earned some much deserved commercial success: his 2006 single "Don't You Think It's Time" charted on a gentle wave of stripped-back production, easy-going charm and Dylan-esque harmonica. Our selection from his best moments to date takes you through to 2009's third album Goodnight, Bull Creek! (named after the Perth suburb where he spent the lion's share of his youth), and includes the countrified barroom classic "Sadness & Whiskey," the rocked-up "Pasha Bulker (Where Did I Go Wrong)," and a sweet cover of Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road."
