In 1974, a hot-headed 19 year old named Michael Peterson decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. During that time, Michael Petersen, the boy, faded away and 'Charles Bronson', his superstar alter ego, took center stage...
Hardy really shines!
This film is highly entertaining, quirky and thoroughly enjoyable.
Tom Hardy does a superb job - this guy is going places.
Do yourself a favour and check this one out.
I've read a few reviews about this movie on IMDB as well as here. I think everyone falls into one of two categories - they either think it’s high-brow and profound, or a load of rubbish. I think the latter. The style is very experimental, and falls away from the norm in that it doesn't have a coherent plot. This movie is just a collection of Bronson beating people up, acting insane, talking to the camera, and feeling sorry for himself. The scenes have been chopped up and thrown together, strung into a story that doesn't really go anywhere. There’s more character development in a cartoon. And after watching the entire film, I had no idea what the director's goal was. I assumed it was to glorify Bronson, but I really couldn't tell. Hardy acted the character well, but it wasn't enough to stop this movie from being a flunk.
If you love Hollywood blockbusters you won't appreciate this!
Great film, loved it.. Hardy is brilliant.. If you love the usual generic rubbish that Hollywood produces then this excellent film is not for you...
