About the Movie

Written by Rolf de Heer and David Gulpilil as a collaborative project, CHARLIE'S COUNTRY stars Gulpilil as blackfella Charlie, who is getting older and is out of sorts. The government's intervention is making life more difficult on his remote community, what with the proper policing of whitefella laws that don't generally make much sense, and Charlie's kin seeming more interested in going along with things than doing anything about it. So Charlie takes off, to live the old way, but in doing so sets off a chain of events in his life that has him return to his community chastened and somewhat the wiser.

Valuable

I'm an immigrant to Australia living in a city, and much of what I know about the local indigenous is media rubbish and the heart break of seeing them sturggling in the city. These movies are a treasure to Australia and apparently under valued. Thank you for showing the truth. This, and Ten Canoes are amazing.

Wow, a must watch!!!!

David Gulpilil should be given a Golden Globe award! I haven’t been so moved in a movie for decades. I tried not to cry but couldn’t help it. This is one of the most poignant movies I have watched in a long time. Thank you for sharing the raw truth. It opened up and deepened my understanding of Aboriginally more than I ever thought I could understand. Thank you!
