About the Movie
Embark on the adventure of a lifetime in this visual masterpiece from two-time Oscar® Winner Ang Lee*, based on the best-selling novel. After a cataclysmic shipwreck, young Pi Patel finds himself stranded on a lifeboat with only one other survivor – a ferocious Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Bound by the need to survive, the two are cast on an epic journey that must be seen to be believed. * Directing - Brokeback Mountain, 2005; Life Of Pi, 2012
I feel sorry for all the lazy people who see this film, thinking it is an efficient way to read the book. The book by Yann Martel is brilliant; this film is weak. It's cgi city if course - no need to get real animals and train them... So the whole thing seems FAKE with little cgi dust puffs diligently deployed wherever an animal cutely scampers across the ground, etc (George Lucas' cgi StarWars movies come to mind). The trauma of the ordeal in the book is only partially realized and, at times, the acting is just woeful. The movie tries to include the incredible detail of the book, but it is an impossible task and most of it is very diluted. So you have two choices: read an excellent book, or sit through a crumby film.
Not such a great story
It was ruined by the religious message.
This movie seems to be more about pushing a particular message than entertainment.
It seems to suggest that the rational father in the film was wrong, and that even though Pi was making up a completely fabricated story, that was perfectly okay.
iTunes's i love this film. Please put up a rent option
