About the Movie

In 2010, The National released their fifth album, High Violet. After ten years as critical darlings, the band was finally enjoying wider recognition. As they were about to embark on the biggest tour of their career, lead singer Matt Berninger invited his younger brother, Tom, to be a part of their tour crew. A budding filmmaker and horror movie enthusiast, Tom brought along his camera to film the experience.

Mistaken For Strangers

Entertaining, personal, charming. Love The National and all those brothers.

Dear Tom

Its funny how in the beginning I hated your film, then something miraculous happened, you got real, you started seeing things for how they were and in the end…. you shone through, and by doing so you allowed the band and your movie to shine through…. can’t wait for the next one

Mistaken for a rock doc

Don't be fooled, this isn't a rock band documentary, it has some footage of the band, sure! There are a couple of songs in there. And you know what? That's the beauty of it.
I couldn't help to gravitate towards Tom, to empathise with his struggle between his brother/roadie/documentarian roll.
This doc stands alone as a family portrait, with excellent background music.
