About the Movie

Working together for the 12th time, John Wayne and director John Ford forged The Searchers into an indelible image of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays ex-Confederate soldier Ethan Edwards, a believer more in bullets than in words. He's seeking his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his obsessive, five-year quest, Ethan encounters something he didn't expect to find: his own humanity.

Why the low rating?

This is arguably Dukes best film and is regularly voted as the best Western ever made.

4 Stars - Rent It

In my opinion this is John Wayne's finest. The Searchers is an epic film where you can always feel it's grand scale. The characters are all so different and interesting and the film takes them in directions that you wouldn't expect. The story is simple and engaging and the scenery is stunning. My only problem is that it's a bit too long and is slow in some parts. However, if you like westerns or film in general, have a look at this one.
