Alasdair “Illy” Murray started rapping in Melbourne as a member of the group Crooked Eye before releasing his solo debut Long Story Short in 2009. Since then he's made witty, self-deprecating songs his bread and butter, typified by the hip-hop love letter “Heard It All". But he has also specialised in anthems with heart—like the blockbuster singles “Papercuts”, with a hook from singer/songwriter Vera Blue, and “Tightrope”, featuring indie rocker Scarlett Stevens—and experimented with propulsive dance beats.
