The Troggs Essentials

The Troggs arrived at the peak of the ‘60s beat-group boom. They condensed the Stones' animal appeal into primal riffs and lascivious howls, most notably on “Wild Thing” and “I Can't Control Myself”, where Reg Presley sniffs around the object of his desire like an over-friendly wolf. That they went on to craft woozy psychedelic pop like “Night of the Long Grass” and the blissed-out “Love Is All Around” is surprising, but even the fuzz-guitar freak-out “From Home” and the emotive ballad “You Can Cry if You Want To” keep one eye on the earthy realities of love.
