Customer Reviews

Consistently interesting and well presented

This is a fabulous podcast of the Saturday morning session on Radio National. Its presenter, Geraldine Doogue, takes real interest in the wide variety of topics covered in each programme: it is most enlightening to hear a real professional at work here. The choice of interviewees is typically wide ranging and the majority of them have been very well-spoken as well as thoughtful. So far I have enjoyed every episode of this podcast and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in thought-provoking and entertaining news/current affairs based topics.

This is a great weekly podcast. A nonpartisan report on many and varied subjects. Leaves you with a need to come back for more.

Saturday Extra

This is a cut above any other issues programme (equalled only by Late Night live). It analyses what's behind the trends and mores of the economy, society and the body politic. It's range and angle of attack on a vast panoply of contemporary topics is delivered and managed by Geraldine Douge carrying experience and wisdom with an uncynical enthusiasm from a seasoned and warm professional who is genuinely interested in all her subjects. After the disastrous experimentation with a patchy 2 header "magazine format" several years ago, this show has been allowed to burnish into a lustrous jewel of intelligence, insight and sheer cerebral exercise without a whiff of self importance. It brings you into a connected conversation which is a delight to eavesdrop and is the near perfect use of radio. I cannot imagine starting Saturday morning without it, but as a podcast I sometimes do so later. Long may it be commissioned and remain in its crystalline perfection. Set your alarm for 7:30am Saturday and listen again to savour the pleasure it bestows!
