Description

Love writing? Looking to improve your writing? Or do you just love listening to writers talk about their craft? If yes, The Garret is for you. We interview the best writers writing today and discuss how they draft, edit, publish and market their work. Our goal is to interview the best writers in Australia, including all of winners of the Miles Franklin Literary Award. We are well on our way there. Each interview is published with a complete transcript and interactive show notes (so you don’t have to write anything down while you listen), available at www.thegarretpodcast.com. The Garret was born in Melbourne, a UNESCO City of Literature. And it is supported by our community. We are proud to partner with the State Library of Victoria, Writers Victoria and the Australian Society of Authors. We receive funding from The Copyright Agency (via Reading Australia) and the Australia Council for the Arts.

Customer Reviews

A fav for an emerging writer

The garret feels like an intimate conversation with all of your favourite writers and authors, as if you are sitting back, asking them anything you have ever wanted to know about their work over a casual wine. It’s so accessible to emerging writers and provides down to earth tips from a breadth of experiences, that allows you to take away what works for you. Easily one of my faves and sometimes I find myself listening in on my way to or from work, if I find I just need a bit of grounding or need a way to feel connected to my writing when life gets in the way.

Life changing

I have to tell you the Garret is about to change my life. It has given me the confidence to stop my stressed job I have been doing for years. I will be out if here in a few months (huge mortgage and all) to pursue my love of language, reading and, giving my writing a shot.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love it, love it!

What a great podcast. Nic asks the best questions - questions that I'd like to put forward to these writers and illustrators. The illustrators are so inspiring to my own work and method. Whenever I need encouragement from a 'quality' mentor I just flick on my fave episode. Brill!
