On a remote mountain in Hawaii, there's a fake planet Mars. Six volunteers are secluded in an imitation Mars habitat where they will work as imitation astronauts for one very real year. The goal: to help NASA understand what life might be like on the red planet—and plan for the day when the dress rehearsals are over, and we blast off for real. Host Lynn Levy has been chronicling this experiment from the moment the crew set foot in their habitat, communicating with them through audio diaries that detail their discoveries, their frustrations, and their evolving and devolving relationships with each other. From those diaries, Gimlet Media has crafted an addictive serialized documentary: the true story of a fake planet.

Great...more please
This was good but it could have been meatier, twice as long at least. I felt there was so much more to examine in this environment and not just ego was really boning who. I’ve experienced something similar and I’d have loved to hear more about this restricted habitat. A follow up or more of that years dynamics would be welcome. Thank you for what we got.
What about SpaceX
Any chance you could update this episode, or write a new episode, that explores SpaceX’s recent achievement to launch people into space. They’re privately funded and have incredible aspirations with BFR. It would be great to hear your assessment.
Felt like I spent a year of my life with nothing happening
Boring. The dynamics between the people was dull, basically they all sort of said they didn’t really like one of the women. The end. So much potential to be a drama, trapped with someone a bit crazy, the tension of being in solitary confinement together, nope just dull.
