Outkast have always been able to make tough guys bounce and weirdos feel like cool kids. Aquemini saw them really find that dual-speed groove, with a vibe that was half funky superhero soundtrack and half backyard barbecue. The characters in the ultra-suave, jazz-flecked tale “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” clearly run with both gangstas and squares, but the high point here is “Da Art of Storytellin’”, a vivid and piercing life-and-death story told in two parts.
