Sahel Folk

Sahel Folk

In his debut for Chicago indie label Thrill Jockey, guitarist Sidi Touré follows in the footsteps of Malian greats like Ali Farka Touré while delivering his sublime Sahelian folk. He recorded Sahel Folk with friends over tea at his sister’s house in their hometown of Gao, and the gentle plucking and bare vocals of “Adema” make it feel like you’re in the room. “Taray Kongo” showcases the sinewy harmonics of a stringed instrument called the kuntigui, while “Sïnji” features stunning dual-guitar interplay.
