Pulseprogramming is serene ambient electronica. Bordering on new age, their tranquil constructions are soothing, minimalist keyboard constructions. The cinematic nature of the group's sound comes naturally from the fact that the four members of the group are actually two musicians and two visual artists. As such, they have won awards for their packaging.

Pulseprogramming is centered around Joel Kriske and Marc Hellner, but the group is a multimedia entity, including art directors (John Schacter and Hans Seeger), a video artist (Eric Johnson), and a poet (Joel Craig). Kriske and Hellner originally based the group in Portland, OR, but they eventually set up shop in Chicago.
