Few records have defibrillated multiple rock subgenres with quite as much style and verve as this debut from rural Leicester heroes Kasabian. Led by primary songwriter Sergio Pizzorno and hyperactive frontman Tom Meighan, they breathe mega-chorused life into Baggy (“L.S.F.”), chugging Britpop (“Reason Is Treason”), rap-infused electronica (“Cutt Off”) and more besides. Big, strange and served with bags of swagger, Kasabian delivers revivalism with a dash of freshness and stadium-ready melodies that are begging to be bellowed.

Kasabian took the British press by storm in the early 2000s by mixing traces of the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Primal Scream with Oasis-sized confidence and DJ Shadow-influenced electronics. Named after Linda Kasabian, Charles Manson's getaway driver-turned-state witness, the Leicester-based group also stole a page from the Band by moving into a remote farmhouse to brew its music.
