Album Review

Suburban Parallax is immediately remarkable for the range of Liz Evlander's lead vocals. If you didn't know otherwise, you might assume the lower-register vocals to be an entirely different (perhaps even male) member of the band, but they're all her work, with some backup vocal support from guitarist-bassist Jacinta Perram. However, it's the only truly remarkable thing about this debut six-song EP (or mini-album, as the vernacular seemed to be leaning toward in the early 21st century). It's edgy alternative guitar rock with bittersweet vocal blends, sometimes with the dragging-accelerated tempo variance common throughout much of the field in the 1990s and early 2000s. The lyrics seem to be projecting ominous sentiments of sorts, but they're not clear enough in enunciation or intent to make a deep impact.
