Album Review

This 2004 compilation issued by Universal contains a whopping 27 cuts, remastered basically to perfection. The seminal numbers, such as "I Smell Trouble," "I Pity the Fool," "Cry, Cry, Cry," "Turn on Your Love Light," "Farther Up the Road," and "Stormy Monday Blues," are all here — and although there is considerable overlap with Two Steps from the Blues, it hardly matters, since some of the weaker cuts from that set have been left off and only the stronger ones remain. Also, this volume has five tracks more than the original Best of Bobby Bland, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 combined. This set is well worth it and has more than enough for any real fan seeking the very best on one disc, and provides a tremendous introduction for the novice listener — all for a very friendly price point.
