Album Review

Freestyle and Wildstyle are both good descriptions of California-based EDM producer Bassnectar's early breaks-meets-bass-meets-dubstep style, but they are also the names of two early EPs and out of print releases from the man, which this archival release compiles. Not in total, however, as Wildstyle loses its frivolous cut "Fun with Synthesizers," but the breakthrough effort Freestyle is fully accounted for in all its kinetic, scattershot wonder. The set makes catching up easy, as the land of EDM is often cluttered with EPs, but know that the man's work kept getting bigger and arguably better, so check something like 2013's spacy and thunderous Take You Down for the full-on boom.
