About Bucie

Women's voices have contributed highly to the lasting impact of South Africa’s house scene. Bucie is one such voice—she has been serenading the country since the mid-2000s with vocals that gleam even during high notes. Born in Kimberly, her journey as a musician started taking shape when she relocated to Khuma in the North West province and became the church choir leader. While studying at Central Johannesburg College, her talent was noticed by her then-music teacher, producer Thandukwazi “Demor” Skhosana, who signed her to his label and released the soulful dance floor staple of that era “Ngicel Indoda” in 2007. Her 2009 collaborative single “Superman” with South African global house music icon Black Coffee proved her wide appeal when Drake released a tweaked cover of the song titled “Get Together” on his 2017 playlist/album More Life. Reinterpreted by Jorja Smith, “Get Together” engraved the prolific artist’s name in the history of South Africa’s exciting house music scene.
