About Fernando Lavoy

b. 1950, Havana, Cuba. Salsa singer and composer Lavoy, arrived in the USA in 1980 and was introduced on y sigo con mi son by Alfredo ‘Chocolate’ Armenteros. He sang lead vocals and wrote half the tracks on Los Soneros, the 1981 debut by the band of the same name. In 1981, Lavoy appeared on two albums by SAR All Stars. In 1982, he took star billing on Fernando Lavoy Y Los Soneros and composed half the songs. Apart from sessioning as a chorus singer in Miami, Lavoy disappeared from the music scene during the remainder of the 80s. He returned with Fernando Lavoy Con El Conjunto Dinastiadiez, which was recorded in Bogotá, Colombia and Miami, Florida. Musically, the album was one of the strongest salsa releases of 1990.
