A Weird Al for a post-modern, hip-hop age, MC Lars came straight out of Berkeley to become a fixture of the emergent 2000s nerdcore scene. Well-versed in literature and culture in addition to a near-savant appreciation of the history of popular music, Lars (Andrew Nielsen) mastered the nascent YouTube universe to become an internet sensation. His songs skewer emo, chain stores, hipsters, hip-hop fads, the recording industry, relationships, and whatever strikes his fancy, but what sets his novelty fare apart is a savage, swift wit and the keenest of ears for the essence of the music he parodies.
