About The Brothers of Soul

The Brothers of Soul were a vocal trio composed of Fred Bridges, Richard Knight, and Bobby Eaton, who released several singles in a smooth, uptown, Motown-derived vein. Their biggest hit was 1968's "I Guess That Don't Make Me a Loser," released on Boo Records, which scraped the lower reaches of the R&B Top 40. It has since become a soul collectible, and also gained the group a following among the Latino community in Southern California. Some of their other single releases included "Can't Get You Off of My Mind," "The Love I Found in You," and "Candy." Bridges, Knight, and Eaton also worked as a songwriting team, most prominently for Ruby Andrews during the late '60s. By the mid-'70s, the Brothers of Soul had broken up; Eaton became a session singer, while Bridges and Knight continued on as songwriters, getting a couple of compositions recorded by the Four Tops. The 1995 Collectables compilation I Guess That Don't Make Me a Loser reissued 14 Brothers of Soul sides on CD. ~ Steve Huey
