About The Muffins
Washington, D.C.'s the Muffins created an ambitious music inspired by progressive rock, modal jazz, fusion, improvisation, and modern composition. The Muffins existed twice: from 1974 to 1981 and from 1999 to 2015. Early on, they home-recorded tape-only albums. Random Radar widely released Manna /Mirage in 1978, followed by <185> in 1981. After their split, Cuneiform released the archival Open City and Chronometers. Following their reunion, the label released Bandwidth in 2001, followed by Double Negative in 2004. France's Musea issued 2010's Palindrome, and 2012's Mothertongue was privately pressed. In 2022, Cuneiform released the 13-disc Baker's Dozen, consisting of almost entirely unreleased studio and live material from 1975 to 2010.
