These United States

About These United States

Combining Devendra Banhart's "new weird American" eccentricity, Flaming Lips-influenced electronic bells and whistles, and a Wilco-esque twanginess, These United States create a musical melting pot of indie pop sound. With a fitting name, the sprawling act combined members of the music scenes of Lexington, Kentucky, and Washington, DC, centered around the anachronistic vocals and mind of Jesse Elliott. By the end of the '00s, the eccentric, ever-morphing act was releasing more than an album a year and were staples of both college radio and NPR.
