The Tiger Lillies

About The Tiger Lillies

With their signature blend of chanson, opera, and Gypsy music, London's Tiger Lillies began their revels in 1989. Career highlights include Shockheaded Peter, a gleefully macabre musical theater adaptation of a 19th century German book of cautionary tales for children that won two Olivier Awards and spawned a Tiger Lillies album of the same name. The Gorey End, a collaboration with the Kronos Quartet inspired by illustrator/writer Edward Gorey, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album. The Tiger Lillies interpreted works including The Little Matchgirl and Hamlet, and collaborated with the Symphony Orchestra of Norrlandsoperan and photographer Nan Goldin. They also explored more modern sources of inspiration, including R.L. Stine's cult favorite Goosebumps book series and the gritty Soho of the '80s. ~ James Christopher Monger
