Album Review

As if the superb MSX00.1 album wasn't enough in its 30-track celebration of Moving Shadow's ten-year anniversary, label manager Rob Playford reloaded his record box and donned his Timecode moniker for the sixth in a series of low-priced compilations. With Playford's penchant for manning audio software as opposed to the turntables, 01.1 was impeccably put together, more an undulating audio soundscape than a regular club mix, with each track segued perfectly to the next. As previously recent back catalogue was kept fresh with a scattering of exclusives, the opening Omni Trio track the first landfall from the Even Angels Cast Shadows full-length, while the remainder of the contents flitted between styles, reflecting the eclecticism of the label over the preceding year. As such the acidic funk of Aquasky and Shere Khan nestled comfortably amongst more abrasive material from the likes of new signings TJ Rizing and Hex, as well as precision strikes from veterans Dom Angus, Technical Itch, and Calyx. Expansive.
