Hank Williams, Jr. has never been above tampering with his father's recorded works — an overdubbed version of "There's a Tear in My Beer" was a Top Ten hit in 1989 — but there was no precedent for Three Generations of Hank, which features overdubbed, electronic trio recordings of Hank Sr., Hank Jr. and Hank Williams III. There might be a lot of wonderful songs on this record, but it's hard to get beyond the weird, morbid sensation of hearing these pieced together electronic duets. Even though Hank Jr. is the blood heir to his father's legacy, Three Generations of Hank is one of the strangest and most unnecessary tributes to that legacy yet recorded.
