Album Review

The Rondelles blast through punk-pop numbers like Joan Jett's indie rock little sister. Their second full-length release for Teen Beat records, The Fox, is a testament to the influence of female-fronted new wave bands from Blondie through the Breeders, and like high school rockers the Donnas they crunch through each song with carefully controlled abandon. Rondelles have crafted a very specific sound that they stick to almost religiously and the album doesn't branch out much from start to finish, but fans of this genre won't mind a bit. The songs blast by quickly, but burners like the halting "Tuesday Rock City" and the gritty "Boy I Know" stand out as brash reminders that grrls rock!
