About Bill Evans
Bill Evans started on the piano at age six, eventually parlaying his skills into gigs at dances and weddings before he graduated from high school. ∙ He attended Southeastern Louisiana University on a flute scholarship and earned bachelor’s degrees in piano and music education in 1950. ∙ Just after college graduation, Evans joined a band led by Herbie Fields that backed Billie Holiday on tour. ∙ In 1958, Evans joined Miles Davis’ sextet, which also featured John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley. ∙ In 1959, he performed on and wrote music for Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue and played piano on most of Chet Baker's Chet. ∙ He collaborated with Tony Bennett on two albums: 1975’s The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album and 1977’s Together Again. ∙ He posthumously won Grammy Awards for two different albums: 1979’s We Will Meet Again and 1980’s I Will Say Goodbye.
