Biography

Guitarist Josef Ostransky and drummer Pavel Koudelka, both of the legendary Czech group Dunaj, formed Boo in early 1998 with cellist Andrea Konstankiewicz (of Rale) and Metamorphosis singer/violinist/guitarist Christoph Pajer. The quartet soon started to tour extensively in Europe, building a small fan base that prompted the Czech label Indies to sign them. An eponymous album was released in 1999 but it failed to attract much attention.

Boo takes its distances from Dunaj, as it avoids any East-European folkloric references. The emphasis is put on rock, complex progressive-tinged rock similar to some of the bands signed on the American label Cuneiform: Boud Deun, Boom, and even Volapuk. Songs typically stay around the three-minute mark and feature high energetic density; they tend to build on fast riffs and stop on a dime.
