b. Georgia, USA. Grant’s early influences include gospel and soul music, which, when combined with her love of reggae, produce exceptional results. She began singing at the age of six and came from a family of talented musicians. Although not Jamaican-born, her feel for the music and her faultless phrasing led to assumptions that she had grown up there. She linked up with the Twinkle Brothers and married Ralston Grant, who occasionally provided lead vocals on the group’s classics, including ‘Barabus’, ‘Gone Already’, ‘Jahoviah’ and ‘Free Us’. While remaining part of the Twinkle Brothers, Ralston concurrently led Grant’s backing band, the Pacesetters. He accompanied her on her hectic touring schedule which included Reggae Sunsplash and The White River Reggae Bash, while internationally she wowed the crowds at Reggae On The River in Vancouver, The 10th Annual Sunsplash in the Grand Rapids, and numerous Bob Marley Day Festivals. As part of the Twinkle Showcase she toured Poland and appeared at the UK’s Essential Festival Roots Day. She is a prominent force in the album chart but has also enjoyed successful singles, including a version of Chaka Khan’s ‘Sweet Thing’ (a Jamaican hit) and the equally popular ‘Black Rose’. Outstanding album tracks include ‘I’m A Rastawoman’, ‘Calling Mama Africa’, ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ and a version of ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’. She maintains a high profile, touring alongside such luminaries as Bunny Wailer, Buju Banton, Charlie Chaplin, Luciano, Sister Carol, Rita Marley, Mutabaruka, Capleton, Josie Wales and Burning Spear.
