About I Am Dive

Cinematic Spanish duo I Am Dive developed a rich ambient pop sound that mixed slow-building post-rock, electronic textures, and acoustic songwriting, earning fans across Europe, North America, and Japan through touring and acclaimed albums like 2012's Ghostwoods and 2017's Music for Silent Running, the latter of which appeared on their own WeAreWolves Records. Formed in Seville, Spain in 2010 by José A. Pérez and Esteban Ruiz, I Am Dive took inspiration from the ambient sounds of bands like Boards of Canada and Sigur Rós, using a similar textural sonic approach to encase introspective acoustic-based songwriting on early EPs like 2011's Fall and 2012's Tides. They made their full-length debut in October 2012 with the haunting Ghostwoods, their first release for Barcelona indie Foehn Records. The following year, the album received a remix treatment under the title Driftwood. A limited-edition 10" EP, Plane Windows, appeared in January 2014 from the label Squaring the Circle. In November of that same year, coinciding with the release of their second full-length album, Wolves, I Am Dive headed out on a tour of Japan. By 2016, Pérez and Ruiz had turned their in-house business, WeAreWolves, into a full-fledged record label. After a busy year touring in China, Canada, Spain, and Sweden, they released their third LP, Music for Silent Running, in December, this time on WeAreWolves. They followed up in 2018 with the Mauve EP. ~ Timothy Monger
