About Jon Shain

A North Carolina singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Jon Shain has built a deep catalog of work that combines folk, Piedmont blues, bluegrass, ragtime, and other American roots traditions with his own original sensibilities. Throughout the 1990s, he toured heavily and recorded several albums with his folk-rock band the Flyin' Mice. Shain made his solo debut in 1999 with Brand New Lifetime, establishing the invigorating mix of roots styles that would characterize his prolific output over the next two decades. Along with his solo work, Shain has served as a producer, session player, and guitar instructor. In the 2010s, he partnered with Joe Newberry for the joint release Crow the Dawn, then formed a duo with FJ Ventre. They released two albums, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon (2018) and Never Found a Way to Tame the Blues (2021), after which Shain issued his tenth solo LP, Restless Soul Syndrome, in 2024.
