Urban inspirational singer Lakita Garth first rose to prominence after winning Miss Black America California honors in 1995, coming just shy of taking the Miss Black America crown later that year. In addition to modeling for magazines including Vogue, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan, Lakita emerged as a nationally recognized speaker on the topic of abstinence, even testifying before the U.S. Senate.
