About Meg Davis

b. 28 January 1953, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Davis is a performer of traditional Irish and Scottish music, and her own original fantasy music. She began writing and recording music at the age of 14 and later played the coffee houses of her home town. It was not until she was 18 that Davis started touring. From 1970-80, she specialized in 12-string guitar, performing for a time with the bluegrass band Vernon McIntyre And The Appalachian Grass, as well as appearing onstage with such names as Bill Monroe, Tom Paxton, and Doc Watson. Davis won the Best New Songwriter Of 1978 award in Los Angeles, which was presented by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul And Mary. The following year saw her first releaseCaptain Jack And The Mermaid, accompanied by Malcolm Dalglish on hammer dulcimer. Davis moved to Washington, DC in 1979 to concentrate on traditional Irish music, and performed there until 1985, appearing in concert, at different times, with Tommy Makem, Alan Stivell, James Keane and Joe Burke, in addition to many others. While in the USA, she worked as part of the Joe Burke Trio, and regularly toured the UK. Davis also performs at science fiction conventions, both in the USA and the UK. Some of her fantasy work is based on the writings of Lewis Carroll, as inThe Music Of Wonderland. Despite her strong interest in traditional music, The Claddagh Walk was her first album of traditional Irish and Scottish music. The 1994 release, Live From Dennos, was recorded in the Dennos Museum, Michigan, USA. Since the late 90s, Davis has suffered with Multiple Sclerosis and no longer performs in public, however she continues to write and record her music.
