About Rain

Formed in the late ’80s, Liverpool alternative rock band Rain is best-known for their single “Lemonstone Desired.” ∙ Inspired by the music of fellow Liverpudlians The La’s, Rain first came together in 1988 at the rehearsal spaces of the Merseyside Trade Union Community and Unemployed Resource Centre. ∙ The band’s first single, “Lemonstone Desired,” briefly landed on the UK singles chart but was withdrawn by their record company due to controversy over the sleeve’s nude imagery. ∙ A Taste of Rain their ’60s-influenced 1991 full-length debut, was engineered by Mick Glossop, who had previously worked with Van Morrison, The Waterboys, and The Wonder Stuff. ∙ The title track of A Taste of Rain, also released as a single, was recorded by producer and songwriter Nick Lowe. ∙ Following their 1991 breakup, various members of Rain went on to work with such notable Merseyside acts as The Lightning Seeds, The Real People, Proper, and Waste. ∙ Twenty-five years after the band’s dissolution, Rain reunited to record 2017’s acclaimed Ten Belters and a Slow One.
